You can get VDO gauges pretty cheaply out of junkyards. Volvos have them too, and are more common. I made an auxiliary set of 3 gauges this way and used a Cabriolet cluster holder to mount them in front of the shifter (required a bit of shaving). Some Volvos also have the 2-prong oil pressure sender pot, which will send signal to both the dummy light and an oil pressure gauge. But you would need to buy some assorted plumbing because there isn't quite the clearance to just screw it in down there. And double-check that the Volvo pot goes off at the same pressure that the VW one does...
