Depending on the year of Vanagon.... there is either round or square gas
filters.  I suggest you try a different FLAPS for the proper filter......
or perhaps somewhere that specializes in more European Import cars.... or
even a VW Dealership, if need be.

If for some reason you're far from civilization and can't find it near
you.... well then you can always order one via mail.

They usually run for around 10$USD.
