A few years back I got along pretty well up in Quebec by trying Spanish with a sort of French accent. People understood most of it. Then we came upon a local who had rolled his bug into a ditch. We threw a rope over it and rolled it back onto the wheels, and then pulled him out of the ditch. It started right up. After that we hung out together for a few days and he really smoothed things with the locals. I think the nearby town was St. Ann du Lac or something like that. It would have been about 1971.
