Subject: replace cat converter - tough job?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed

A recent smog check on my '90 GL indicates that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced. This is confirmed by my trustworthy mechanic with whom I reviewed the numbers from the test center printout. He quoted me around $300 for the job.

Since this is a "no moving parts" kind of component and it's in an accessible place on the vehicle, what are the chances that I can get the converter from BusDepot for $100 + shipping and do it myself? I'm no master mechanic, but I'm no moron either.

Any reassurances or warnings appreciated. -- Steve Gross '86 Westy RIP '87 Westy '90 GL
