I have an 84 and a 91. Both used to have similar problems and even worse (as in no start, dying on the road, flatbed etc etc)
I checked the fuel and ignition systems up the whazoo but could never come up with anything conclusive.
What finally fixed the problems was cleaning all the ground wire terminals where they bolt to the block.
(I finally accepted that you need to use automotive AND computer troubleshooting skills to work on cars these days.)
On the top of the engine block, left side, there are two 6mm bolts with a whole bunch of brown wires and a braided ground cable connected to them. Un-bolt the wires and clean the terminals and the mating surface of the block with a wire brush or emery cloth.
Also, unbolt the braided cable at the other end and clean that up, too.
It probably wouldn't hurt to smear some vaseline over them when you're all done, either.
Worked like magic for me.

Hi all, well an impending problem has been getting worse bit by bit, and so I figured I'd see if any idea's were available before I started. When I was driving in 3rd the other day the bus did the inermittant sydrome "buck", only once, then picked up and kept going. It did this again the next afternoon, again only once while I was stepping on the gas in 3rd, then picked up again and kept going. But last night I was on my way home from school, and it started raining, and the bus started to do it again this time while in 4th, but again while stepping on the gas; the only thing is that it seemed to be getting alot worse, it happened more frequently on that trek home. So, I don't really think that it is the vanagon syndrome, because it seems that it only occurs when I let off the gas and step back on, or when I'm lightly stepping on the gas it seems. Which leads me to believe it's a fuel system problem. Any idea's on what frequently might be bad in this situation. Or should I ju!
