I've taken it to two separate places. One is right around the corner, but I stopped going there after I asked them to replace the ground straps and do an oil change. They had the van all day, and didn't do anything, supposedly because they were too busy. The next day, they again had it all day, did the oil change, and wrote on the service order "needs ground straps." Another place I've taken it to, which is close by (in So. Pasadena,) is called Husco. They are pretty good. But they had my van for almost two weeks and could not find "Vanagon Intermittent Syndrome"-like symptoms. I finally picked it up and did the work myself (I think it was the old Ground Point 18 solution.
When you get to L.A., look me up. There are VERY FEW Vanagons/Westys here, ironically, in the land of a zillion cars. We need to start a club here and help each other out. (Swap parts, tools, experience, camping, etc.)

I'd sure like to know the name of the independent mechanic and especially the VW dealer you are talking about. Although I wouldn't take my Vanagon to a dealer to get fixed, I sometimes (rarely) buy parts at the dealership. Since I'm in L.A., it would be nice to boycott them on your behalf.<BR>
