Hi All,
Two weeks ago my son's 80 Westy had an engine fire....fortunately a Mass Turnpike Emergency Vehicle was tailing him at the time and the fire was immediately put out. I wasn't able to see the Westy until this morning. We had it towed back from the western part of Massachusetts yesterday. The fire only burned for a minute or two. It was concentrated in the center of the motor. The air box and related parts are melted some of the wiring is melted. Hoses, etc. need to be replaced. but most of the wiring is intact and the engine didn't seem to suffer from any major heat. Right now it's covered with fire extinguisher powder. Once I can seal off the intakes I'll hose it off and go from there. I think I have enough parts between my son's parts van and old engine...hopefully his 80 Westy will be running in a couple of weeks or so! Ric |
