Matt, I don't know exactly what symptoms are telling you the tranny is shot, but on auto trannies sometimes a thorough cleaning and serviceing can render a "shot" auto tranny serviceable once again, sometimes not. But worth a try, I would think, before I would sell, or even buy a replacement autotranny. In any case, were it mine, and was in otherwise good condition, I would overhaul or replace the tranny and drive on. I have no intention of getting rid of my V-gon ever. Exception would be if I bought a newer van. I would still keep a V-gon. I have told my kids to get me a double burial plot, because I want to be planted in my V-gon sitting at the wheel!!

Seriously, though, if you have no other major problems with the machine, and it serves good purpose, fix the tranny by overhjaul or replacement, and drive on. There will be lots of mileage life left in the vehicle.

You might check with Chris Turner for a good used auto tranny , or with Daryl at AA Transaxle for an overhaul on the one you have. Both good sources.

Good luck,

John Rodgers 88 GL Driver

Seriously,
