After a few times of seeing a tiny geyser of gasoline coming from an otherwise ok LOOKING fuel line you may change your view of this. As I am not in the rust belt I don't see the same kind of problems you might. I agree that other parts fail too, in addition to the cigar tube ends often the crappy plastic junction fails at the firewall where the fuel line from the pump joins to the engine fuel lines. 2wd have this failure prone brittle fuel line coupler but not Syncros.
