If you have a manual transmission it requires right at 1 gallon. 3.5 liters. If the tranny is drained while in the van it will retain about a quart of the old fluid / grease trapped in the ring / pinion area. You may be able to jack the rear or from one side and get some of the oil out, but if the tranny is in the van you'll never get all out. Never use solvent cleaning procedures on your tranny unless it is out of the van and it can be drained completely. I lost a tranny this way (synchronizers just wore out from lack of lubrication).
