It is 17mm nuts that draw the transmission bell housing to the engine, the automatic transmission to the differential is 13mm, and where it joins it should be smooth, no gap,(big "O" ring inside) with a gap it should be leaking transmission fluid. that would account for the loss of gears, also things inside are not lined up right with it not strait, they or you should take it out and install it correctly on the differential.
