<< The rubber hose that connects it to the air cleaner would be good to have, too, but I think I can get that from the dealer if I have to.

A recent near-disaster where a rainstorm filled my air cleaner with water convinced me that running the snorkel without the water seperator is a bad idea. >>

I recently ordered that rubber hose (kind of an angled, oval-profiled affair) from a mechanic, with an estimated price of $37. Admittedly a ridiculous price for a hunk o' rubber hose, but I could try and get an extra one for you, if you can find no other source.

On a related note, and pertaining to all Vanagons I suppose, I have a question regarding the flow of rainwater. Like most Vanagons, my 1983 diesel Westy sits a bit nose-high when parked, so most of the rainwater flows out the BACK ends of the gutters. From there it flows straight down the bodywork just aft of the air-intake grills, about half of it continuing down the flanks and onto the ground. But the other half seems to trickle INTO the abovementioned air grill, dripping down into the engine compartment and forming puddles on the 'shelf' just forward of the taillight assemblies. I cannot help but believe this contributes to the ever-popular seam rust which is beginning to manifest itself.

Would appreciate comments and solutions from other idiots who have stood out in the driveway, staring intently at the side of their Vanagon during torrential downpours.

P.S. Please don't advise me to park with the tail end of the van UPhill ... har har

"OK, I'll leave it at that since I've already gone on for far too long about something I don't know a whole lot about ..."
