There is a plastic gear in the Syncro front diff for driving the speedo cable. They can strip out and then no speedo. Thoroughly clean the area where the cable screws onto the diff. There is a roll pin that holds the gear assembly in place. Drive that pin out and the plastic gear can be pulled out of the diff case. Different gears were used for different applications but I think that all the North American ones are the same. Where are you?
