I would suggest having the new van towed. The hitches that bolt to the rear tie down loops are only rated for ~1,000 pounds. The Vanagon is not rated to tow at all. You will also need a tow bar to hook up to the van. If that van should become separated or you loose control of your van while towing (and you can!), you will be really broke. It will be really bad if the van being towed is not registered and insured and it hits someone after it becomes disconnected. A proper towing set up includes properly rated hitch and tow bar (3,500 pound min, bus empty), with brake activation on the towed vehicle with break-away activation in case of separation. Safety chains and working lights on the towed vehicle.

Good Morning everyone, I'm purchasing a 65' Splitty and I need a tow hitch for my vanagon so I can tow it within state. I was hoping that someone on the list might have one that I could either buy cheap, or borrow for the day I'm going to go pick it up. Preferably the kind that bolts on to those hook things, I think that would just be easier. I'm in CT. I plan on picking it up the same weekend as Busses By The Mill, since I plan on going for a day/night, and the bus is located in that area. I need to tow it from Mystic to Bristol/Terryville. I would just buy one from one of the vendors, but their expensive, and I'm broke. If anyone can help me out some how please let me know........ thanx,Tracy85' GL "Ripple"soon 65' Splitty
