It's my opinion, and the opinion of several other van owners, that this is a safety issue. I personally would not put passenger car tires on my van. You can make your own choices, of course, but I don't think tires are a good place to skimp. Ultimately your ability to steer and stop the vehicle depend entirely on those four bits of rubber touching the road.
