The same thing happened to me- in my case I took off the nose cone end of the transmission where the shifter rod goes into the tranny, and found that both shifting forks were engaged at the same time. It was in two gears at the same time. I bet that's what happened to your tranny. Mine was really handled ruff and I think it happened from all the transit slamming around. Even a few of the fins on the out side of the transmission were knocked off.
