Just a few thoughts about the capacitor fix
to the afm instructions on my website.
If you have a minor intermittent syndrome,
in which the vanagon always starts up again
right away, and mostly keeps running,
except with a few hiccups from erratic
afm signals, the cap fix can help.
However, if you have major intermittent
syndrome, that goes on and on, freeway
or town driving, and makes it almost
impossible to drive the vanagon, you
should take a serious look at the Ecu.
Thanks to Darrell Boehler who some time ago
explained to the list about heat buildup
inside the vanagon Ecu.
(Darrell now drives a Eurovan).
The circuit board inside the Ecu in some
areas can suffer heat damage, and solder
connections can go bad.
If you remove the Ecu cover, you can
see the darkened area of the circuit board.
Sometimes resoldering the bad contacts
can help, and can possibly give you more
life on the Ecu.
