I'm sitting here patiently waiting for Frank Grunthaner to send in a posting that makes me look like I need my diaper changed. A little known fact is the combustion chamber temperatures seldom get hotter than 600/700 degrees because of the flow of cold intake gasses. The exhaust port builds the most heat at 1100 / 1600 degrees. The exhaust manifolds reach 1400/2100 degrees on high performance engines. I've seen Air Cooled heater boxes that were run without the Alternator Blower fan in operation and the aluminum heat sinks were melted to the point that they were pooling aluminum in the lower housing.
