I picked up a 1987 Vanagon GL at the auction last week. I intended on parting it out but after driving it home I'm having second thoughts. This van runs great!! Even the A/C works!! Here's a brief description: Silver in color, automatic (shifts beautifully), gray velour seats with blue vinyl trim (very nice condition), power mirrors/windows/locks (passenger window doesn't work), no rust (that I've noticed), a few dings and a few scratches. Now since this van came out of an auction it comes with a salvage certificate which means that the new owner will need to get a brake & lamp inspection and a smog certificate to register it in California. Will this van pass smog? Well... the catalytic converter and oxygen sensor look like they were last replaced when Reagan was president, therefore, I would replace them and do a tune up prior to smog check. Nine times out of ten that'll do it. Now the fun part: $1,000 AS-IS or I'll smog, safety and register it for $1,500 Car's in Sacramento, CA (I finally remembered to put this in). Cheers, Jeff |
