This is far from a straight swap, though. You need to find or fabricate the tinware needed to seal the smaller engine in the Vanagon engine bay. Plus you'll have all the problems that Beetle and early Bus owners have, with no oil filter, an inadequate oil cooler, and a soft case that gets the thrust bearing surfaces pounded out. Not a good option, IMHO.
