I concur with Loren - I have also heard many times that the Boxer water pump is very sensitive to belt over tightening - which will cause a bearing failure [ one way to get coolant out the vent hole..]

I keep my belt just tight enough to keep it from squeaking.

One thing that has not been mentioned is belt tension. If the belt is to tight the stress can take out a bearing or seal on a waterpump. Don't ask me how I know....
