If it really has 64 K on it, how can you consider it needing rings? Do a compression and leak down test. What size tires are you using and have the gears been changed to accommodate them? Is it really a raw gas smell or just an aroma? May also be the oil breaking down. 15 MPG considering larger tires is normal. Syncros are not known for great fuel economy and 15 is what was on the sticker. Especially if you are using the AC.

Last December I decided to treat my oil and gas with MMO. Months later I start smelling gas in the oil about 500 miles after an oil change. I've changed the oil and filter two times, just to see if it would help. Unfortunately it didn't, now I'm looking for a good place to start, but I fear the rings aren't sealing - this sounds like a big job, is it? More info on my 91 syncro. It has 64K original miles; original engine (bought it from the original owner 3 years ago who never drove it) has the Berg 1:4 rocker arms, Australian chip and 16" wheels. I've been getting poor mileage (I wonder why w/all that stuff) at about 15 highway and 8- 11 mpg in San Francisco. Any help would be great, not much in the archive.

Thanks Sanford
