I'm sure a lot of you know, but the front outside door handles on the Vanagon are interchangeable left to right. Having just taken my handles off for re-keying, and noticing while the paint was worn off the top of the handles it was in near perfect shape underneath, I put them on opposite doors. Now the "good side" is facing up and darned if the handles don't look brandy new.

It's an easy swap. There is a phillips screw behind the weatherstripping on each door that, when removed, allows the handle to be removed in a push to the front, pull to back motion--as the front of the handle has only a two-sided hook holding it in to the door.

The one drawback is now the slider door handle, with the worn paint on the top, looks a little old compaired to the "new" front door handles. Maybe it's time to work out a swap with the British listees--all is forgiven.
