Subject: short block build tips?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Well, today i received a 98lb box with my case (alignment and everything checks out OK), balanced and trimmed pistons, clearanced rods, 82mm counterweighted crank, and main/rod/cam bearings. I think this means i am ready to put the short block together.

So some things i want to do just for kicks is to clean up the inside of the case so there isn't the casting flash still on the surface, and to clean up the burrs on a lot of those holes in the case. Are there parts i just should not touch? Secondly, i have to clearance the case just a hair for the crank - recommended way of doing this (for someone without a compressor)? Thirdly, any general tips on case and bearing prep to get it ready to bolt the halves together (goos, pre-goos, artful incantations)? Or should i just follow the bently?

Lastly, the rod and cam bearings i received were mahles made in brazil - is non-german ok here, or should i be looking for something better (if even available)? Mains are german.

I think that is about it for now. I'll be checking clearances as soon as i borrow the tools from work and get a chance to put them to use.

As always, thanks, -Damon
