I got to agree with you John ................. but I've always been told by Cam Grinders. (when I was racing AA Fuelers and Funny Cars, Inboard Hydroplanes) That you shouldn't run solid lifters on hydraulic cams, it came down to what they called ramp speed of the cam. I'd think ratio rockers would be a better fix than risking running a cam flat. At any rate, 20 year or even ten year old cams have wear and I see making a change late on in engine life could make engines die even sooner. I've mic'ed some new cams, used cams, high lift cams and the wear is measurable after just 5 to 10k usage in many cases. Then there is the rules you're breaking ............... never run new lifters on and old cam, never run a new cam with old lifters.
