Typical Bosch starter routine. Check the voltage from the ignition
switch while cranking the engine (2 people and disconnect coil so it
doesn't start). If you have ~10 volts at the solenoid, it should go. If
you do, than the starter solenoid is probably bad. It is possible that
the support bushing in the transmission is worn which can also cause
this.

Hi,

Our 87 GL every so often decides to not start following a brief stop
after a 20 -30 minute drive.  For instance, drive to the bank, park, run
in to do a transaction, then come out and turn the key - no solenoid
click, no starter whirrrrrr, but there is the sound of a fan or the fuel
pump going.  So, I figure the ignition switch is OK since juice is
getting somewhere.  This is very intermittant, so can't really take it
to a mechanic to check out the electrical system. Especially since it
will start fine after sitting for maybe 30 minutes. The starter is a few
months old and this didn't happen before we put the new starter in.  Any
input would be appreciated.
