I think it can be done, but you would have to lower your transmission a bit to make it work as the Syncro's crank line is about 5cm lower than a 2WD. I think you would be almost better off making a aluminium or stainless tank that fits between the frame rails.

While sweating where the next gas station would be on a lonesome stretch of road this morning I started wondering if it would be possible to install a syncro gas tank in my westy with a solenoid to switch between tanks. It seems like it should work... but then again I don't know what the difference on the top of the syncro tranny are compared to the 2WD ones. Has any one already attempted this project? I'd love to hear some first hand knowledge, but second to that would be some good old fashioned bench racing about the possibility.
