This is a conversion I do frequently. It does not help any for going closed loop after a cold start since engine temp is the first consideration for going closed loop. However, it does help for winter operation and if the engine idles for long periods. If replacing the catalyst, I also use the later cat and relocate the O2 sensor there. Helps to get it out of the way of the wheel spray. There is also a deflector shield that clips on to it to deflect water and air flow. The part # for the deflector is 035-906-274.

Anyone have a feel for the difference in warm-up time required for both the 1-wire versus the 3-wire O2 sensors? I am thinking around town driveability and mpg might be improved if the O2 sensor kicked in sooner. The question is, "How much sooner?" The 1-wire takes 4 or 5 minutes from stone-cold? What about the 3-wire? Is it a lot faster or "Not worth fooling with" faster? Now that I have my O2 sensor display wired up, I can see what the sensor is putting out. The 1-wire seems a little marginal at idle speeds with low exhaust flow, especially after barreling along and then suddenly slowing to idle. Maybe the 3-wire would help out?
