Unless the control unit was shorting out the ECU temp sensor, it has nothing to do with the idle mixture.

Hi,

My 87 appears to be back to normal...its idling smoothly...and at the proper RPM. For a couple of months now at start up it would belch black smoke...run rough...and after warming up the idle would hang up at 1500 to 2000 rpm.

Disconnecting the ISV took care of the high idle. However, the rich condition at start up was still there...and it was getting to be a pain to warm the engine up until the cold start enrichment process stopped.

That all stopped today. Chris Turner had a used ISV Control Unit and sent it to me. Popped the right rear tail light...reached in side...unplugged the old ISVCU, popped in the "new" one....reconnected the ISV...and VOILA! IDLE!! Smooth......no belching smoke...no misfiring. Drove it around for about 20 minutes and it idled normally. I think I'll take the Westy to work tomorrow and see what happens...got my fingers crossed!

Ric
