Subject: Can I swap a 2.1 WBX longblock for a 1.9?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed

Hi,

Short: Can I buy a 2.1 WBX longblock and put all my 1.9 stuff on it? (Automatic) (I need a new exhaust anyways, so I have no problem with buying that.)

Long: I changed the oil for the first time since bringing the Westy home, fired it up after the oil change - tock, tock, tock, tock... Oh, crap. The PO must have put glue in the oil to keep it from tocking. Oh well. I was planning on a new engine at some point, but this really was too soon. My wife hit the ceiling of course when I broke the news. (She forgave me later though.) - I've since put Mystery Glue in there to quiet down the tock, tock, tock - but there's bound to be a spun bearing in there.

Ultimately, I was shooting for the 1.9 liter TD swap. But 2k for the engine and 1.5k for the adapter is a bit much for me right now. I really like my new Subaru Forester - and wouldn't mind the Subaru swap, but the wiring is something I don't want to even think about (I can, but I prefer not to...). Going with the 2.0 Golf/Jetta is a cool idea - but I've read too many horror stories about it (sounds easy and cheap to put in, but too easy to break.)

Can I buy a 2.1 WBX longblock and put all my 1.9 stuff on it?

Conrad
