There is a VW dealer in Rapid City, but -- given the experience some listees have had with some VW dealers -- that may not necessarily be a source of comfort. I have no personal experience with them. BTW, we did the same trip last year, plus Yellowstone & the Tetons, in our '87 Weekender (which performed flawlessly). If you get the chance, I highly recommend the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody.
