Subject: Automatic transmission repair guide
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

To all tinkerers and shade tree mechanics: I recentle acquired a 1988 Vanagon, Wolfsburg adition, with a bad automatic transmission. The car was super-clean and the price was very good, so I got it. I have been fiddling with all types of VW for 25 years, T-1 to T4 and everything in between, but I never tackled an automatic transmission. A friend of mine in Yerington, Nevada, who is a AT expert, told me is a piece of cake, so I went to visit him for the weekend, brought the auto transmission with me and he took it apart in front of me in less than a six pack of beer. I was impressed by how easy it was to take the transmission apart. The next weekend I brought the rebuild kit and all the seals and he put it back together in no time at all. I took pictures of everything we did, and made notes along the way. Now, I want to know if anybody in this forum would be interested in spending $25 plus shipping for a very well illustrated guide to dissassemble and re-assemble a Vanagon automatic transmission. I don't want to say it is a repair manual. It is not. It is a guide on how to do the work, with color pictures of every step. Hotmail only allowed me one picture, but I can e-mail more samples upon request. I'm thinking of recording all the info on a cd, using Microsoft Publisher, but I can also do it in plain 8.5X11 with pictures and text, using Microsoft Word. Please note that the vanagon transmission is a two piece unit: the transmission part and the final drive part. This guide only covers the auto transmission part. The final drive can follow later, if I get enough people interested in learning how to do it. You can reply to this forum or you can e-mail me directly at razeprotrk@hotmail.com
