Two things here: Vectors being what they are, it is more accurate to end with the bar parallel to the ground when the final torque value is reached.

Secondly, the required torque is more certainly applied if some type of simple stirrup is devised and hung from the bar at the point where the force (deadweight) is applied. For this you don't have to raid the tack room, just tie a bight in a piece of line which is big enough to sling over the bar and accept your size 13's. If you're familiar with splicing, make a grommet from 2-3 feet of line, then turn it around the bar and feed it through itself to form a larkshead with a bight for your foot. Works perfectly.
