Well, thats what I thought of doing, but I didn't really want to ding everything up.

Following Tom's advice:

"Now for the fun part - Push the transmission away transmission exposed! from the engine, without knocking it off the jack. You may have to lower the jack a little bit more as the transmission slides forward."

Didn't quite work that way for me -- the transmission didn't slide forward. I'll keep prying at it tomorrow.
