I've never had any problems just pulling the old one out from the front (after both ends were loose) and wiping the new one down with a light coat of lubriplate and sending it back through the tube. I normally have to lay under the tranny and guide it through the fire wall and empty my pockets to find the little cinch bolt for the throttle body lever.
