If it controls the gas properly then it's only the switch section that's bad and not the valve. Certainly worth trying to fix -- you haven't much to lose. The switch is quite likely some variety of microswitch, may be able to find a replacement or substitute. Might be able to work up something with a Hall effect sensor or reed switch or optical interruptor sensor that could control a relay. Reed switch maybe poor bet, I think the movement's too small to allow it to both pull in and drop out. It's been a long time since I've looked at this thing, I forget how it's constructed. > Are replacements available?
