Thanks Dana. I had previously visited the Mann site but couldn't get the "online catalog" function to work. Finally went over to the "Europe" site and managed to figure out how to work the thing. Here's what I found, in a condensed fashion:

Thread Gasket Dimensions Width 920/17 3/4-16UNF 62x4.5 93 719/5 Same Same 76

Height bar* R** 920/17 95 - - 719/5 123 2.5 1

*=Bypass Valve Opening Pressure **=Check Valve

So, the 719/5 will spin on and seal properly on an air-cooled Vanagon. It's capacity is about 13% less than that of the 920/17, which doesn't strike me as a big deal. However, the 719/5 has a check valve and a bypass valve where the 920/17 apparently does not. Having a check valve and bypass valve strikes me as A Good Thing.

So, I'll ask again: Anybody think I'll have any problems using a 719/5 filter on my air-cooled Vanagons?
