I often tow Vanagons using a tow dolley, never had any problems (although automatics are a PITA). As a matter of fact, I just towed a '90 Carat from San Diego to Sacramento, 65MPH on I-5, didn't fish tail or move around at all. I was using the SO's Expedition, so I had a pretty big vehicle pulling it.

I've also seen several large RVs pulling Vanagons that had the hitch hooked to the front bumper. Once again, the vans were tracking straight and true, one of them even passed me going 80MPH on I-80.

So I guess I'm trying to say that I've seen both methods used without issue.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Jeff

Hey all, just curious if any of you guys had the experience of towing a vanagon before. We have a 26' RV and are considering towing the van across the country...would we be better off flat towing the van, renting a dolly..or would you not advise towing it at all? Any info would be greatly appreciated..thanks for your time..Brian
