Nope.

It's not working, so in that sense it's toast. If it controls the gas properly then it's only the switch section that's bad and not the valve. Certainly worth trying to fix -- you haven't much to lose. The switch is quite likely some variety of microswitch, may be able to find a replacement or substitute. Might be able to work up something with a Hall effect sensor or reed switch or optical interruptor sensor that could control a relay. Reed switch maybe poor bet, I think the movement's too small to allow it to both pull in and drop out. It's been a long time since I've looked at this thing, I forget how it's constructed.
