Found out what the problem is with my fridge thermostat. The sensor tube is
cracked. It is typically filled with a gas that 'reports' the temperature of
the inside of the fridge to the thermostat. Mine has lost its charge and
therefore the thermostat doesn't do its job.

When doing maintenance or cleaning on the fridge, make sure to be gentle on
the thermostat sensor. It's fragile, particularly where it passes through
the back wall.
