Subject: 1955 Beetle ad newspaper clipping available
Content-type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset=iso-8859-1

I just found pieces of a July 1955 Otago Daily Times (Dunedin, NZ) newspaper stuffed in my garbage can at work. I pulled the pieces out and looked through them. Wow, ad for Nuffield tractors ("versatile!"). Gee, 5-valve radiogram... HI _TECH!!!

Then the prize... a dealer ad for the Beetle, with what looks like a factory-illustration VW stylized bug (no doubt reversed to appear RHD).

Points made in the ad:

* All these brilliant features. And many more. * Independent suspension on all four wheels. * Spacious, elegant, beautifully finished interior. * Absolutely dust-proof, draught-proof body. * Marvellous road-holding and riding comfort. * Unpapallelled economy under any conditions. * Almost unbelievably easy gear shift. * Powerful rear mounted 14 h.p. motor.

Olé!

The ad is half page-height and about 0.4 pagewidth. The page had been torn in half across the middle, and the horizontal tear has just nipped into toe top of the roof. There is a small 3-cornered tear (1cm across) in the right-center of the ad, but the flaps close (no paper actually missing there). The paper is slightly yellowed but not badly, but it is fragile.

VW memorabilia collectors, any idea whether it's worth anything? I'd like to see it go to a good home...

Somewhere I also have a NZ VW model chart, from the 60s if I remember.
