It is resulting more than likely from wear to mechanical parts, and the only thing will slow consumption down via additives is to significantly thicken the oil. Whether this is a good thing for the rest of the engine, remains open to debate. Why don't you try it and see, and report back, but very likely you will notice no change. hk
