It is resulting more than likely from wear to mechanical parts, and the
only thing will slow consumption down via additives is to significantly
thicken the oil.  Whether this is a good thing for the rest of the engine,
remains open to debate. Why don't you try it and see, and report back, but
very likely you will notice no change.
