I got a Instrument cluster from a Jetta at a junk yard and dissected it. I found that the main odometer wheels do not have a nut that holds them in, only the pressure from the other end of the rod. I do now have a second little brass nut that goes on the tripometer rod.

Also I have the indicator lights if anybody needs them, including the blue highbeam light and cover.

I have a 86 GL with an odometer problem. When I got the van the odometer did not work at all and I noticed that the numbers seemed to be falling back into the face a little. I took it apart and the dial of numbers for the miles had in fact slipped out of a little hole in the side of the unit. I was able to slide them back in place and the odometer worked fine for 3 weeks. Then it slipped back out. So I took it apart a second time and this time I noticed a small brass nut on the tripometer dial that was not on the odometer dials. I have not been able to find any vanagons in my local junkyards and was wondering if anyone knew a substitute donor for the little brass piece. Thanks in advance. Ed Shotwell
