I use plastigauge (local FLAPS ) to measure the crank / main bearing
clearance. (same for rod bearings)
I use light oil wiped on both the bearings and the crank, lay in the
plastigauge. lay the crank and torque the case together. Don't spin the
crank on the plasti gauge.
If the Wasser Boxer uses the ring type #3 main you just need to measure
the crank OD and the bearing ID.
I think since #3 bearing is round it doesn't deform unless you trap the
alignment pin under it.
To verify clearance or crush of the case on the outside of the bearing
shell in the case, just skip the oil and crush the plasti gauge.
After you've accepted the clearance, you need to lay the crank in light
oil in the bearings with the case torqued and give the crank a spin.
It is my procedure to continue with some spinning of the crank after
every component is added, cam, rods, oil pump.
Use assembly lube on everything.
Pack your oil pump with Vaseline or light weight grease (I just use STP).
