I have had a few people ask me for VANAGON badges for their European T3 -
the simplest way to tell if it is a 'real' Vanagon is to look at the rear
quarters.  On the North American vans there are some red reflectors on the
side at the rear.  The European ones do not have these.

Ok, now I'm confused!  I just saw another T3 Transporter with a Vanagon
badge here in Munich.  Both were Westy "California" models, similar to the
US campers, except there's no roof rack, and there's a small console
around the shifter.

So, did VW actually use the Vanagon name in Germany (maybe as a way to
give special models that exotic American feel), of is it just very popular
to switch badges?  (Or, did I just happen to see the only two in Germany?
Or the same one parked in two different places 10km apart?)
