I agree with Stan. Cut the belt and leave it in there. My compressor is
shot because the hoses leak and someone ran it too long on too little
freon. Someday I may decide to fix it. AC is a good thing to have for
resale purposes, even if it doesn't work. Bonus is when I turn the AC on
now, I get a fast idle and the fan runs on low. Good for "stuck in
traffic" situations.

I'd be for just cutting the Fan Belt (compressor belt).
I missed many sales on my Westy because it didn't have A/C.
There comes a time you want to move on to a Syncro or nicer van and the
A/C will help sell yours at a higher price.
The whole system probably weighs less than 100 pounds, most that I
shipped came to about 75 lbs. for both boxes.
