Subject: OT: VW Commercial...

This really has nothing to do with Vanagons, but since is is Friday ...

Would anyone happen to remember a TV commercial/VW AD from about 1983, that shows/promoted a small town police force in the U.S. south (I want to say South Carolina or Georgia) using VW Rabbit, Gti's as their police interceptors?

I only remember some of the details of the ad.

Sunny day, speeding car .... VW GTI pulling him over, Big Burly cop, sunglasses, wooded country road. Big smile. It seemed they were trying to emphasize fuel economy and performance over the big police cruisers.

It's been 20 years, and I can't remember the details too well. I've always wondered if it was true, that the police there really did use them ... or if it was VW of America kicking off a new campaign.

Just curious,

Cheers, dave-o
