This problem isn't limited to SUVs, although everyone loves to bash them. Pickups are also high vehicles, and they are even more popular around here than SUVs. In my area (Southeastern Arizona), one half of all vehicles are pickups. One quarter are SUVs. Probably another 5% are full sized vans. That means 80% of all vehicles are high, with the remainder being divided up between the minivans, compacts, sedans, etc. Our Vanagons are clearly in the "high light" category, as well. The center of the headlights on my '81 Westy are 36" above the ground. That's the same as the headlights on my Ford full sized van, and several inches higher than the lights on my SUV.
