<<you are a die hard. and probably dont really notice the vibration on your
ass, because it is so numb. I am sure that your van is less than pure and
probably drives like a botch job. BUT you have owned it so long you dont
notice it.
If you were to re-drive a real Vanagon then I am sure you would see where I
am
coming from. You see. I have three customers that have these abortions in
their vans and they drive like a Le -car (remember them)these poor guys
really
dislike thier tiico and eurospec conversions. their vans are so
uncomfortable to
drive, not to mention I couldnt here my wife at highway speeds if I wanted
to, (maybe that is a good thing for you).>>
Well since you asked- I drive a '91 Syncro if that qualifies?
I have had many compliments on how smooth and quiet my '82 Westy is (with
power steering) . My previous camper was a 64 Bus and the Vanagon is
definitely a better ride and has double the horsepower of the old bus. That
was a loud ride.
I also drive nice newer Westfalias a and mine runs so well I have'nt found a
reason to replace it with a newer model.
Boy you must be living in a part of the country where there is a problem
with poor workmanship!
I have seen several conversions here in the NW that are very nice- a guy
near me who is a VW genius and works at VW did a G-60 in a Syncro Westy that
almost pushed the seats off the rails during the test drive he took me on.
Right now he drives a rabbit pickup with a 1.8 turbo in it- and he has
tweaked it to get 210 hp or more out of it.
I'll admit he gave me information and clearanced the firewall for me, but I
did the rest.
His tech co-worker also drives a Vanagon with a 95 Jetta engine- another
friend from Germany has his 82 Diesel converted-in fact I'm surounded by
Vanagon conversions and I don't hear any of them lately with horror stories.
The horror stories always seem to come from those who don't own and drive
them.
I know about vibrations- I used to fly in old airplanes. Nothing close to
rivets humming in unison though .
I did have to remove the old diesel heat shield as it was buzzing.
Now the only buzzing is an occasional bee that flies in the window..
or the buzz on this list.
<<I hold my convictions with a founded reason, DO YOU? I am just trying to
give
this fellow the real bit. not a one sided I ONLY OWN ONE VAN reason. I am
sure that you are proud of your DIY conversion but try driving a nice mint
vanagon again...>>
Even my friend Steve's mint '90 Westy which have driven can lure me away
from mine- next time you are out this way drop over for a spin- good
conversions do exist, you just have to know where to find them.
