Are you sure?
They can exist on your
own property and be worked on, camped in etc. without
collision/liability
insurance. :)
Illinois has random insurance checks. When we get the plates and
registration we agree to
keep them insured for the period of registration. I have been randomly
checked on the 68 bus.
I had to provide my insurance policy number and the insurance carrier
name and phone number.
I think I'd have to give up the plates and re-register them if I wanted
to drive them.
I do get to drive them every week for one purpose or another.
I drive two of them as business vehicles when I go to my clients
locations.
I drive one to haul camping stuff, canoeing etc. or what ever household
fix up I'm doing.
My wife drives one once a week to school were she teaches.
Yes I could get by with fewer but they do get driven and enjoyed.
I only carry the collision/liability as I'm sure they'd be totalled in
heart beat for $500.00 or less.
Thanks for the reply and input.

Do you really need them all fully insured all the time?
Only fully insure the ones you need, and just keep minimal theft-fire
insurance on the others. Surely you can't manage to use all 5 vehicles
at
once, nor can you need more than one vanagon road-ready for any given
season, could you?
I have 4 vehicles, but only two of them are insured to be driven. The
other two are only insured against theft and fire. If/when I need them
I'll
have to go through the hassle of changing their insurance status again,
but
it seems to be as easy as a 10 minute phone call. They can exist on
your
own property and be worked on, camped in etc. without
collision/liability
insurance. :)
